How to go about asking brands for payment / Blogging tips
Hello guys! I have been away for too long and have really missed writing. But let’s start all over, can we?. I have been reading a lot on blogging tips and how to approach brands you will like to work with and how to ask for payment and have decided to drop some few tips I learnt here for everyone. I hope it helps you and me.
There are so many bloggers with great accounts who don’t have a clue on how to go about asking brands for payment. I thought I could share my thoughts, what have learnt and worked for me in the past year with you all.
Contact PR companies: If you are just starting blogging, the best thing to do is contact PR companies or approach the brand you want to work with. Let them know you are interested in working with them. Send them emails introducing yourself, what you do and how you will like to work with them. They is no harm trying. Have sent some email to brands and have gotten some good replies and you will be surprise who will want to work with you.
Go to events: When I started blogging, 50% of my money went to paying to attend events especially bloggers events. Where you can meet other bloggers, interact and share contacts. If you don’t live close to events what happened to creating your own event.
Ask for payment: This part is really hard for some people, me included. I remember the first payment I had was about N3000 and I didn’t ask for it to be sincere. I told the brand I’ll publicize their product and all they have to do is give me a discount but it happened that the brand preferred to pay than giving me a discount. I was very surprise since have learnt that lots of brands work on gifting bloggers instead of paying. Any one that works for you, gifting or payment make sure you communicate to the brand before anything happens.
How much to ask: This is a tough one especially for newbies. So I said I was paid N3000 for a post and it happened that some other person did the same post but with higher payment. It’s not like you can google and find how much to charge. You have to consider how much time it takes, how much of your time your audience need and how much your experience is worth. You can start from small and as your following grows and your blog progress you can ask for more.

Don’t just approach brands you’ve never patronize or brands you know on a normal day you can’t can’t afford to buy their products or your followers can’t afford them. Be true to your self and the brand will see that.
I hope this was useful .
